Best towns to stay in?

The best towns to stay in Mallorca are those closest to the routes and climbs you wish to conquer. If there happens to be be other attraction like maybe a great beach, decent accommodation and a choice of  restaurants that would be a bonus!

The most popular choices placed in order of our recommendation are:

  • Port de Pollença (Puerto de Pollensa) a small town in the North of the island on the bay of  Pollença. It has a wide range of cyclist friendly accommodation to suit all budgets; more restaurants than you could hope to ever eat at;  an excellent beach; a very wide range of bike related services and is right on some of the very best routes. Hotel recommendations.
  • Port d'Alcúdia. Also in the North of the island with slightly more accommodation choices and slightly fewer bike related services; loads of excellent restaurants and a great 12km stretch of beach. Very popular with triathletes and cyclists. The choice of a number of pro cycling teams for their Winter and Spring training.  Close to some of the very best routes. Hotel recommendations.
  • Port de Sóller.  On the West coast. Beautiful village. Right on a small bay; wide range of accomodation and restaurants to suit all budgets. You will need to like climbing as the only way out each day is up a decent climb! Think the Coll de Sóller or Puig Major each day to get anywhere else. Close to some very good routes but harder and longer work to get to most of them. Hotel recommendations.
  • Alaró. Is a quiet traditional Mallorcan town in a peaceful valley near the Serra de Tramuntana. A pretty place to visit. Very little sign of tourism in Alaro. The town has managed to retain its traditional charm and offers a relaxed pace of life. It’s mainly used as a base by visitors for accessing the mountains. A very big plus is that the islands best bike shop is located hereHotel recommendations.
  • Sóller.  On the West coast. Beautiful village. 2 km inland from Port Sóller and its beautiful small bay; wide range of accomodation and restaurants to suit all budgets. Has a large town square with a market and restaurants. You will need to like climbing as the only way out each day is up a decent climb! Think the Coll de Sóller or Puig Major each day to get anywhere else. Close to some very good routes but harder and longer work to get to most of them. Hotel recommendations.
  • Palma de Mallorca. A fantastic little city with a very wide choice of shops hotles and restaurants. Close to the airport which is a bonus but also plenty of traffic to get through to reach the better routes. Hotel recommendations.
  • Playa de Palma / Can Pastilla. A resort built close to Palma and the airport with a wide range of hotels and restaurants to suit all budgets plus a wide range of bike related services. The choice of a number of pro cycling teams for their Winter and Spring training. Still have to negotiate more traffic to get to the routes you will want to do.  Hotel recommendations.
